Why use diagnostic ultrasound?
Diagnostic ultrasound provides a real-time view of many of the tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissues around the foot and ankle.
Because the scan is performed alongside your specialist assessment, the findings can immediately be related to where you hurt, how the problem behaves and what treatment or rehabilitation is most appropriate.

Focused ultrasound can help assess many musculoskeletal tendon, ligament, plantar fascia, joint and forefoot presentations.
Tendinopathy, insertional changes and partial tears.

Tim specialises in musculoskeletal foot and ankle problems, sports injuries and diagnostic ultrasound. His postgraduate training in Podiatric Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound allows scan findings to be interpreted alongside the clinical examination, injury history and movement assessment.

Ultrasound can assess the structure of the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon, including thickening, tendon or fascial change and selected tears. These findings are interpreted alongside your symptoms and clinical examination.
Selected forefoot presentations can be assessed, including plantar plate injuries, joint problems and interdigital nerve symptoms. The findings are interpreted alongside the clinical examination.
Yes. The appointment concludes with a clear clinical impression and next step, which may include rehabilitation, footwear advice, orthoses, shockwave therapy or onward referral.
