Swift Pro microwave therapy

Swift Pro delivers carefully controlled microwave energy to heat the affected tissue. This is designed to encourage a local immune response to the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes verrucae. Treatment does not normally break the skin or require a dressing.

Verrutop is a professionally applied topical treatment containing a Nitrizinc Complex. It acts by dehydrating and denaturing the affected verruca tissue while the surrounding skin is protected.

Questions about verruca treatment
How does Swift Pro work with my immune system?
Verrucae are caused by HPV infecting the skin. The infection can persist when the local immune response does not clear it. Swift Pro uses controlled local heating to encourage an immune response in the treated area. This is a local treatment, not a general immune-system booster, and having a persistent verruca does not necessarily mean your immune system is weak.
Does every verruca need treatment?
No. Some verrucae clear naturally, and monitoring can be reasonable when a lesion is painless and not causing problems. Treatment may be worth considering when it hurts, affects walking or sport, or remains troublesome. Assessment helps confirm what the lesion is and whether treatment is appropriate.
Why do I need a consultation before treatment?
Not every area of hard or painful skin is a verruca. The consultation allows the podiatrist to assess the lesion, review your medical history and explain which option—if any—is suitable before you commit to treatment.
Will treatment be carried out during the consultation?
It can be. We first examine the lesion and discuss whether Swift Pro is suitable. If it is appropriate and you choose to proceed, treatment can be carried out during the same consultation. Otherwise, a separate treatment visit can be arranged. The consultation costs £50 and Swift Pro treatment is £85; both charges are explained before treatment begins.
Can you guarantee that the verruca will clear?
No verruca treatment can guarantee complete clearance. Response varies according to the lesion, how long it has been present, previous treatment and the individual immune response.
How many appointments will I need?
Swift Pro is usually planned as a course, with treatment appointments commonly around four weeks apart. The number of sessions and review timing depend on your response. Verrutop may also need repeat applications. We will explain the proposed schedule and costs after assessment.
Does treatment hurt?
Swift Pro applications can be painful, producing a brief sharp or intense heat sensation that usually settles quickly after the application ends. Temporary tenderness can occur. Verrutop is usually well tolerated, although tingling or stinging may occur. Your podiatrist will explain what to expect before proceeding.
Can children and teenagers be assessed?

Can I continue work, walking or sport?
Most people can continue normal daily activity, although temporary local tenderness is possible. Individual advice will be provided according to the lesion and treatment selected.
